A 4-day trip to Fez & Merzouga
This year, the 11th of November, which is a Bank Holiday in France, fell on a thursday, allowing for a long weekend getaway.
After having studied different possible destinations, Clement and I decided to opt for Fez, Morocco, thanks also to the direct flight with Transavia. We booked the flights, and we started gathering information about this amazing city, trying also to find a suitable desert trip. Considering the short amount of time (from thursday morning to sunday morning), we did not want to rent a car and have to drive long hoursm but rather be comfortable and enjoy the view.
We found on Tripadvisor Fuma Tour Travel, who had amazing reviews and organised 2-days trips in te desert from Fez to Merzouga. I therefore contacted Aziz et voila, the long weekend was organised.
Thanks to Aziz, we were able to drive through different areas of Morocco without having to drive, and therefore enjoying the view. Some of the stops we made were Ifran (the Moroccan Switzerland), Azrou (with its cedar trees and monkeys), Arfoud, and the Ziz Valley. Once in Merzouga, we slept in a Berber Camp in the dunes. Let me be clear with you; although the roadtrip is incredible, it takes a long time to reach Merzouga (7 h each way). If you do not feel comfortable in sitting for so long in the car, I would suggest you to do other day-long activities, such as Chefchaouen’s visit, Volubilis’ visit, Rabat’s visit, or Middle Atlas’ visit).
On Friday we drove back to Fez, which we visited on Saturday; we went to the tanneries (look for Shop 64 to get an amazing view), we got lost multiple times in the Medina (do not even attempt to follow Maps), then we went to the Jnan Sbil gardens and the Fes El Jdid, the other old part of the town.
The city is truly a Moroccan Jewel, but unfortunately we had to catch the plane on friday morning.
