A 5-day trip in Jordan

Who does not have Petra on their travel bucket list? But be aware, failing to see the rest of Jordan may be one of your biggest mistakes while visiting this country, so buckle up and get ready for another roadtrip!

Unfortunately my own trip was short (I had just moved back to Europe and I could not take many days off), but regardless of that, I loved this country. The trip started in Amman, where my parents picked me up with the rental car (they had the time to visit the capital, and they loved it), and we drove directly to Wadi Mujib (79 km-1h15), where we did a tour of the canyon. We finished it without the guide, andwe felt like Indiana Jones! After that, we visited the Castle of Kerak (88 km-1h15), an old Templars’castle on top of a hill. We got there by sunset, allowing us to enjoy the amazing view.

After the Castle, we kapt on driving to Aqaba (245 km-3h), the Jordan city on the Red Sea. This city is the perfect mixture of beach calm and night movida! we onl spent 2 nights in Aqaba, and we spent the day at the maritime sanctuary of Aqaba (Aqaba Marine Park), where there are many scuba and snorkel sites.

The following stop was the Wadi Rum (70 km-1h) (do not forget to bring water), where we did the two hours tour, where we saw :  The Nabatean Temple, Lawrence’s Spring, Khazali’s Dune, Khazali Canyon and The Little Rock Bridge. After this quick tour ( I highly suggest you to spend one night there), we went to Petra (110 km-1h47).

Many suggestions about Petra: Petra never closes, or at least tis is what the Beduins told us. Many nights there is the event “Petra by Night”, where the Treasure is lighten up by thousands of candles. The day after we woke up at dawn to enter Petra as soon as possible, in order to avoid the big crowds and especially the heat of the desert. I totally suggest you to go up to “The Monastery”; we saw it at sunset on the first nice, and the hike is not extremely hard. Just remember to pack so;e water up!

Petra was my last stop in Jordan, but my parents kept visiting the eastern part.
