A 9-day trip to Quebec
Canada is a great country if you’re looking for nature and hiking, but do not forget that even cities are well worth your time. We organized our roadtrip between September and October, so we had amazing colours and some pretty good weather as well.
We started the roadtrip from Montreal, where we spent the first day visiting downtown and the Mont Royal, then of course we went to the Plateau, to see where all french people live! Because of that, we rented the car from downtown and not the airport, which may be cheaper.
The following day we left towards Shawinigan (167 km-1h50); the airbnb was in front of a lake so we rented a Kayak and we did a tour around the lake during sunset; it was breathe taking. The next day, we woke up to see the sunrise and then we went to Parc de La Mauricie (25 km-21 min), where we rented another Kayak to reach the Waber Falls (Chutes Waber); it is a 45 min ride on the kayak and then a 2 hours hike. Not only the destination, but the entire journey is wholesome.
The day after we drove to Alma and Lac Saint-Jean (310 km-3h40); the Pointe-Tallon National Park seems really nice, but I think it would be nicer during summertime. The next morning we went visiting another park, the Parc Regional des Grandes Rivieres. It was really nice walking through it, but it was raining so we did not get the full experience (we were also supposed to camp but we quickly changed our minds). In the summertime, you can also raft here, and it seems amazing. After that, we got back in the car towards Sacre-Coeur (170 km-2h) where we had our Yurt on the Fjords, but we stopped to have lunch at Saint-Rose-du-Nord. Unfortunately it was still raining and cloudy so we missed the famous view of the Fjords. We went the afternoon to Escomous where, from a small trail close to the sea, we saw many whales passing by!
After the night in the amazing yurt, we woke up to a clearer sky so we could actually enjoy the fjords and the hike back to the car, and we drove to Escomous where we took the ferry for Trois-Pistoles. Once on the other side, we went to Saint Antonin (130 km-2h45) where we had our amazing airbnb, who was obtained from an old mill.
The next morning, before driving to Quebec City (210 km-2h10), we stopped in Kamouraska, a cute little village famous for fishing; we also saw a fisherman who was fishing eels! In Quebec City, we had a walk downtown where we visited la Citadelle and the old town. Such an interesting city. The next day, we went to see the Montmorency Falls (14 km-15 min)(Chutes Montmorency), which is a must while visiting Quebec city. After this, we unfortunately finished the trip driving back to Montreal (265 km-2h50), where we spent the last morning between Little Italy and the McGill University.
